Many of the problems that cause a refrigerator to stop working require the intervention of a technician, but some of them can be solved with simple fixes that you can do yourself.

The exact location of the potentially problematic components varies among different Frigidaire models, but the general troubleshooting process is similar for all refrigerators. Consult your refrigerator’s owner’s manual for guidance on how to find the components in your particular model after you locate the model number. The model number is found on an appliance tag on the inside wall of the refrigerator.

Ice Maker and Water Dispenser Problems

When the ice maker does not produce ice and your water dispenser is not working either, check the water supply line for proper connection and that the valve on the line is open. Check the refrigerator’s water filter for proper installation and that is not clogged. Replace as needed, as these only last a few months.

Confirm that the ice maker’s power switch is turned on and that the wire signal arm, which automatically stops the ice maker when the ice bin is full, is not pushed up when the ice maker isn’t working. Confirm that no jammed ice cubes are preventing the unit’s raker arms or auger from turning

If the temperature inside the freezer is above about 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the ice maker will not make ice; if the refrigerator has been recently installed or unplugged, allow plenty of time for the freezer to reach the proper temperature.

Noise Problems

Abnormally loud noises coming from your refrigerator while it’s running are likely to be caused by the compressor, the condenser fan or its motor, or the evaporator fan or its motor. If the problem is caused by dirty or blocked fans, you may be able to solve it by cleaning the fans; the evaporator fan is behind the panel in the rear of the freezer’s interior, and the condenser fan can be accessed by removing the bottom back panel of the refrigerator. Always unplug the refrigerator before removing any panels or cleaning any components.

If any of these components are failing, a technician can replace them if you do not know how.

Water Leakage and Condensation

The refrigerator may leak water onto the floor if the defrost drain, which is under the evaporator, is clogged with ice. You may be able to unclog the drain yourself without calling a technician.

Water may condense inside or outside the refrigerator when the weather is especially humid; this is normal. Condensation may also form inside the compartment, on the refrigerator’s outer surfaces or between the doors if the doors are left partly open; check the doors to ensure hat they’re unobstructed and able to close all the way, and clean the door gaskets with warm water and a soft cloth.

Frigidaire refrigerators with touch-control panels have a series of alarms that sound when the door is open for more than 5 minutes, temperatures rise inside the freezer or the refrigerator or when an ice cube jams the flapper in the dispenser. Reset these by pressing Alarm-Reset on the touch screen.
